Burnside Bridge - Antietam Battlefield

I enjoy the feel and the final look of painting on a textured surface. There is a serendipity in the way the color and textures reveal themselves. I painted this after a day on the Civil War Battlefields of Antietam in Sharpsburg Maryland. The tree at the end of the bridge was a sapling during the battle. The peaceful landscape today was a bloody tangle of men back in 1862. My view on that sweet sunny day seemed to show that time heals all. This is a Watercolor on Texture medium, 14 x 18, matted in a neutral white mat and framed in a white weathered wood frame.
